I recently came across this pin and just had to share it. This is absolutely amazing and would be beautiful in my shabby chic living room!!! As soon as I come across a birdcage like this, I am definitely giving this a try!!!!

One of the easiest and most beautiful ways to paint furniture for your shabby chic decor is chalk paint. Annie Sloan has some amazing chalk paint and wax products for creating beautiful furniture pieces, however, being a stay at home mom living on one income there is no way I can possibly afford her paint!! While cruising pinterest I came across this pin and realized my dream of finally painting the beautiful desk my mother in law gave me many years ago would finally come true…if the recipe actually worked!!!
The desk I have is one that has a very slick covering on it and it was not solid wood, so sanding it could have caused big problems. It is a type of laminate and anyone who has tried painting laminate knows it can come out pretty bad. I did more research as read that this chalk paint “recipe” would also paint laminate and there was no sanding or priming prior to painting so I decided to give it a try.

I also use another pinterest technique for distressing that worked quite well. I used the Vaseline technique on the wood and the hardware. As you can see the hardware came out beautiful:
MY THOUGHTS: Thank you Idea Room for sharing an amazing “recipe” and making my day with affordable chalk paint!!! This paint works like a charm and you can mix the grout with any color you desire. I used Johnson’s Paste Wax to finish off the desk and it works great. Thank you Shanty 2 Chic for sharing the Vaseline technique and making the distressed look so easy!!! Both of the pinterest pins work amazingly well. I highly recommend both if you are looking to paint distressed furniture and shabby chic your decor!
Those who are closest to me know that I have three loves in life (after the hubby and kiddos of course) : roses, the beach and shabby chic. I recently came across this pin on pinterest and loved the idea that I can make roses that will last forever. Don’t get me wrong, I love receiving fresh roses from the hubby, but these can decorate my home and never fade away!!!!
First let me say that these were not as easy as I thought they would be, but are very much worth it after you get the hang of it and see your completed rose in all it’s glory!! I had to make several before I finally got the hang of it and finished one that looked good.
A few things I learned: use real watercolor paints not watered down craft paints. While the watered down craft paints will work, I think it is worth the extra to buy the watercolors. They seem to spread on the filters smoothly while the craft paints get too thick when trying to get a good color. Also, hang the rose upside down and let it dry overnight before you start curling the ends and shaping the rose. If you wait, you will be able to manipulate the rose very easily. Thirdly, patience is very important!! If you are not a patient person, this will be one heck of a project for you! (Believe me, I am extremely impatient and had to calm myself several times before I finally settled down!!)
I also got a little creative and made a rose out of a shabby chic napkin and painted it with triple thick instead of paint and it turned out pretty as well!! While mine look nothing like the beautiful roses in the pin, I think that I can get pretty close after some more practice!!

Being the rose lover that I am I also came across another pin that had a tutorial for a different way to make roses out of crepe paper. Being the ever so lovable shabby chic queen, I decided to make these with a napkin and crepe paper and came out with this result…..
I have to say I love both of them!!! Hope the hubby is ready because there are about to be roses all over the house!!!
My Recommendation: Both tutorials are amazing and achievable with some time, effort and patience. I give these pins an A+ !!
Several years ago…I believe in 2000…MTV Cribs featured Pamela Anderson’s Shabby Chic coastal home. I fell in love with her home and have been in search of good screenshots of the MTV video. At last, I have some pretty decent screen shots!!!!
Her home is my inspiration home and slowly but surely I will transform my home into a serene bright home like hers!!! I hope you enjoy the screenshots and find some great inspirations here. Her attention to detail is stunning!

I could think of no better way to start this blog than with a Pinterest test! I am a lover of all things food and this pin caught my attention immediately! Apple Streusel is one of my favorite deserts and this recipe could not be simpler! The original post can be seen here. When I saw this pin I thought…hmmmmm….I have all of the ingredients….so I decided to surprise the family with a treat after dinner this evening. We all waited patiently, in great anticipation, for the end result to land on our plates. I have to say, we were all very pleased!!!
Unfortunately, everyone was too excited and ate them before I could take a picture! Instead, I wills hare the picture from the original pin.
I used red delicious apples, other than that the recipe was the same.
MY RECOMMEDATION:
Definitely try this recipe!!! This is one pin that I highly recommend!
